How you can get involved!

Volunteers work in the Visitors Centre, meeting and greeting people who have come to HMP Swansea to visit their loved ones. To allow you to volunteer in the Visitors Centre you will have to be vetted by the prison and be expected to attend an induction and a training session arranged by HMP Swansea.

 

Main duties

  • Meet and greet visitors
  • Make visitors feel comfortable
  • Attend Family Days (arranged by HMP Swansea)
  • Participate in events arranged by the prison and by Ffops
  • Address visitors queries and concernsimages

You will report to the Volunteer Coordinator who, after initial training, will address any further training needs you may have. Your hours will be discussed weekly and added to the prison rota accordingly. Dress requirements – smart casual

Expenses

Mileage paid at .35p per mile Public transport – costs reimbursed on receipt of ticket Lunch expenses are paid after volunteering for 4 hrs. and on production of an appropriate receipt

FFOPS has a presence in Swansea Magistrates Court and Swansea Crown Court, we are there to reassure Court users and to provide advice and guidance when needed. On occasion we are requested to attend Court proceedings with service users to support them.

 

Main duties

  • Liaise with court staff eg Security officers , Ushers, Probation service and Witness support officers
  • Ensure that Ffops leaflets and posters are displayed and replenish when necessary
  • Address Court users queries and concerns
  • Accompany service users to Court hearings when requested and after taking advice and guidance from the Volunteer Coordinatorprisongraph

You will report to the Volunteer Coordinator who, after initial training, will address any further training needs you may have. Your hours will be discussed weekly and added to the court rota accordingly. Dress requirements – smart/formal

Ffops maintains the cabin based to the left of Swansea prison main entrance, which is also used as a drop in center for service users and volunteers. The Cabin is, on many occasions, the first point of contact for service users, they will either ‘phone, call in or e mail for advice.
